Opening a Dispensary

After recently taking and passing my LDO certification test I am feeling like I am readyto take the next step in to the professional world of optics by opening my own optical dispensing storefront. Sadly for my family my uncle Hugo has passed away, but to my good fortune he has left me his entire estate which included a beautiful storefront right in the heart of downtown Spokane, more than enough money to get myself started, and a strangely large collection of pink flamingos. With this great location and financing I will be able to complete my dream of being my own boss. With the location of the sop being right in the heart of downtown Spokane I will be able to service a large and very diverse group of people. In the honor of my late uncle Hugo I will call the shop “Hugo’s Optical Emporium” we will service people with having a large selection of glasses and be able to conduct contact fittings there on site.

Right off the bat I will need to set up an eye exam room so that my staff or myself will be able to check basic VA’s and confirm proper contact fitting. I will need to purchase a examination chair with all the normal accessories that are put with the chair in an exam room. These items would include a slit lamp for the examination of the contact lens fit, phoropter for verifying the Rx and to make sure the right power of contact is given, and a retinascope so that there is a way to confirm the Rx of a individual that is mentally impaired or is to young to give a good response to the use of the phoropter. Also I would like to have the “Stimuli Visual Acuity System” in my office as well, this is the newest of tools used in the refractions tools. (Haag-Streit USA , 2010) Another useful tool that I would add to my location is the “Zeiss Eye Terminal” it is said that, “Every aspect, however minuscule it may seem to human eye, is taken into account. Slight head tilt, true distance between eyes and lenses, frame angle, amount of wrap and even lens type; all are carefully examined and interpreted with unrivaled precision to guarantee the best possible acuity in the final product.” (Spectacles For Humans) Some of the other items that I will need for my office are an auto-refractor, NTC, Snellen chart set for a distance of ten feet, topographer, pupilometer, distometer, lensometer, and an auto and manual ketatometer. I will get the examination equipment from Armstrong Optical. (Armstrong Optical Service Co, 2008)

Now on the glasses front I have decided after careful consideration to carry a fairly large selection of brands at my store, these brands are Cutler and Gross, Derapage, Deromebrenner, DITA Select Optics, Linda Farrow Vintage, M.A.D.E., Martin x Martin, Meyer Eyewear, Mykita, Oliver Goldsmith, Onkel, Orgreen Optics, Propodesign, Reiz Augenspiel, Salt Optics, Sutro Vision, and Zero G Eyewear. I have decided to carry these different brands because they first off are a nice price range from some very high-end frames to the lower price economy frames. With these different brands I am also able to supply the newest fashions that are currently coming into the optical world.

As far as my tools to repair, adjust, and modify frames such as a large assortment of pillars, screwdrivers, nose pad, and heating tools for adjustments I will be purchasing all of this from Western Optical supplies. (Western Optical Supply, 2009) I have decided against edging my own lenses in house due the amount of equipment that I would have to buy, along with all the tinting and other things to be able to set it all up. Instead I have decided to go with Essilor for the company to do all my edging, tinting and finishing, their labs offer a one-day turn around on their lenses. I have found that their different tints they offer such as the transition lens tint, and just their new developments in optics makes them the perfect choice for my type of store. (Essilor, 2009)

Lastly for my hydroygel contacts I have chosen to take get them from Diversified Ophthalmic Inc. they are a major supplier here in the states, and better yet they have a lab located right here in Spokane making the retrieval of my supplies much less expensive without having to ship everything. (Diversified, 2008) Now knowing that RGP have to be custom made and I will need a lab that can supply those for me. After careful consideration I have landed on a California based company called Carter Contact Lens, they are able to meet all needs with toric, bitoric, bifocal, trifocal, keratoconic and decentered optic zone lenses. (Carter Contact Lens Inc, 2010) I feel that with these choices of companies and with the hiring of a complete staff, I will be able to own and operate a successful business here in Spokane.

Beer vs Bier

"Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed - Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, 'It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver.'"

-Jack Handy (Beer Quotes)

When asked the question, if beer is more important that Bier, or if Bier is more important than beer, I first looked around my apartment to see how I stand on the matter. I have to say that in a personal stand beer has won hands down with the forty or so beers I have at my apartment, and sadly no sign what so ever of Bier other than in my textbooks and I couldn’t find a single fenestrated contact lens for the life of me. Now just because my apartment reflects that of the average twenty one year old doesn’t mean that the world has cast aside our man Bier. Now it is time to turn Google in hopes that Bier as the gentleman who gave us the more wearable contacts stands better with the world.

When I first googled beer I was shocked to see that in the mere quarter of a second it took for the search to load there was a total of one hundred and ten million possible results. (Google Search Engine) With the first link to click on of course being the ye old Wikipedia, but the next link below caught my eye much faster, beeradvocate.com a whole group of people that’s only goal is to educate the world on every aspect of beer.

“Beer has an amazing history that's wrapped in culture and embraced by people who are passionate about brewing, selling, serving, and supporting it. All of this deserves some thought and respect.” (Alström Bros, 1996)

Now I took this same principle and applied it to our man Bier in the hopes that he might have fared better with the web. When I searched his last name in a quarter of a second I only was able to find that there was seventeen million seven hundred thousand results (Google Search Engine), and that Mr. Bier doesn’t even show up in the first three pages of results. I was unwilling to give up on our man Bier just yet. This time I searched his full name “Norman Bier” and finally our man showed up with a tiny four hundred and eleven thousand results.

It appears that our man Norman Bier just can’t win against beer, but wait there is a funny twist here because the point of this paper is to compare beer to Bier. Which ironically is the same thing, just like if we where to compare bière to beer or even Bier to bière. In the German language the word Bier is translated directly to the English word beer. Now I decided to look more into Norman’s last name and look at its origin, and found that his last name has a long history,

“ This German and Jewish surname of BIER was a metonymic occupational name for a brewer of beer, originally rendered in Latin documents in the form BIBER (to drink)…” (Coat of Arms Store)

So as we can clearly tell Norman Bier may have been a revolutionist when it came to contacts, his family carries the history of being brewers of beer. So I believe that the numbers say it all, proving that beer with its long history completely blows Norman out of the water, but we must give a honorable mention to the Bier family for there history of brewing. In closing the real question that we are left with is where did Norman go wrong by not choosing the family path of becoming a brew master? The world may never know.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer."

-Abraham Lincoln (Beer Quotes)

"The problem with the world is that everyone is a few drinks behind."

-Humphrey Bogart (Beer Quotes)

A Childhood Toy or a Societal Monster?

Throughout our childhood we are always playing with toys and other odds and ends along those lines, but have you ever stopped and wondered why am I not playing with that other toy? Over the last century we’ve seem toys become more and more gender orientated, I mean yes we’ve always seem girls with their dolls and boys in their cowboy outfits, but what about Barbie’s and G.I. Joes? Now both of these toys seem to have played a huge role in general with the growth of all the different types of action figures that we see these days, but also the fact that it is a role that we as children begin to look up to and over all idealize. I believe that toys like G.I. Joe and Barbie are bad examples for children to use as something to try to emulate.

Now the two different toys both have different stereotypes that they put upon children, from the need to be a hero all the way to the actual looks for a child to try and emulate. I am under the belief that of the two we can say that Barbie is the greater evil though, I mean when you stop and look at her she seems to have everything going for her. I don’t want to sound like a sexist but what woman has her dream house, her ideal car, can do any job she wants and most of all that perfect body that no real human can even have and still be able to be living. It is sad to think that our children will have to look at these toys, because when we are younger we seem to be ten times more likely to imprint what we do as a child.

So as mentioned above Barbie has all these different wonders that she has in her life, but where exactly did this more than perfect young woman come from? It all started when one of the founders of Mattel’s wife was in Germany and noticed a doll, “Lilli was a working girl who knew what she wanted and was not above using men to get it.” ("Barbie") The company went ahead about bought the rights to the doll and began production on the Barbie dolls taking her from that working girl to a teen model that basically had everything. She had,

“over forty pets including cats and dogs, horses, a panda, a lion cub, and a zebra. She has owned a wide range of vehicles, including pink Corvette convertibles, trailers and jeeps. She also holds a pilot's license, and operates commercial airliners in addition to serving as a flight attendant. Barbie's careers are designed to show that women can take on a variety of roles in life, and the doll has been sold with a wide range of titles including Miss Astronaut Barbie (1965), Doctor Barbie (1988) and Nascar Barbie (1998)” ("Barbie")

She already has all these different things for young women have to try and live up in their minds, but that’s not the worst part even. There is just her figure, and that alone is just the worst part.

It is strange, when we look at the time just before Barbie came out into the market, the models that where being used looked like normal people but then within ten years of her appearance on the market models started to change and becoming skinner, and started doing some extreme dieting. This was due to the fact that Barbie’s measurements where, “Barbie doll is 11.5 inches tall, giving a height of 5 feet 9 inches at 1/6 scale. Barbie's vital statistics have been estimated at 36 inches (chest), 18 inches (waist) and 33 inches (hips)” (Michault) and it didn’t help young girls that “In 1965 Slumber Party Barbie came with a book entitled How to Lose Weight which advised: "Don't eat." The doll also came with pink bathroom scales reading 110lb, which would be around 35lbs underweight for a woman 5 feet 9 inches tall.” ("Barbie") Again another thing that we wouldn’t want our children trying to be; its truly scary when you start looking at what a young women in today society have to live up to, especially if this is just one of the millions of influences that they have to deal with.

But they didn’t just stop there, Barbie being the young, attractive, and successful she also needed friends, Mattel went ahead and gave her many different friends. But it was interesting to read that all of her friend where never made to be a success or attractive as her, keeping all the girls that play with her still wanting to be like her the most. (Cross 775-777) This is talked about in the essay “Barbie, G.I. Joe, and play in the 1960” by author Gary Cross, he talks about the fact that Mattel chose to keep Barbie’s face looking the same so that the children that play with her would be able to take time and imagine what her face would look like.

Now we know what our young women have been playing, but what about all the young men, do the have some over powering toy that they according to society need to be just like, without a doubt they do. For the boy’s we have G.I. Joes, these are action figures that are themed after men at arm from our different branches of the military. They range from ones that are in dress uniforms all the way to ones that look something alone the lines of Rambo. Almost all these action figures come with guns, and with the larger ones you are able to change out their outfits. Now the real question is what brought the G.I. Joe’s to the world, and what are boy’s reactions to him.

For starters G.I. Joe is based of a TV show called "The Lieutenant” one of the creators of G.I. Joe was writer for the show and brought the idea to Hasbro as a possible toy. The year that the it was released was 1964, just when the U.S. was entering the war in Vietnam, one of the basic thoughts for the toy was something for young boys to relate to, and give them pride in our nation. ("G.I. Joe") The G.I. Joes when first released had one for each major branch of the military, the Army, Navy, Air Force, and the Marine Corps, also at the time of release they included a black solider in some areas. ("GI JOE History") “Each action figure was 11 ½ inches tall, had 21 moving parts and came in fatigue uniform with boots, work cap, and a dog tag.” ("GI JOE History") Now due to what was all going on at the time sales soured at first and then went down as the Vietnam war was hitting a bad patch, so during this time G.I. Joe ditched the military look and switched over to being more about adventure, and at the same time they also released a comic book about G.I. Joes adventures. Now the list of things that G.I Joe has done can go on and on, basically though this toy changed the entire definition of what an action figure actually is today to people.

Now for why us guys love our G.I. Joe’s, basically to a young man they where cool, it was a toy that boys could send out on adventures. The thing to keep in mind though is that when G.I. Joe came out he wasn’t some overly buff guy, he was normal, but then it seems like almost out of no where in the 1970’s he becomes built, six pack and everything. The other part that is a tad disturbing is the fact that at first the guns that they where given where just plain normal guns, nothing exciting at all, but now days the guns that they are using are huge. In a sense, I believe that these guys are showing young men that the way to be cool, and be a real man is to go out and have some amazing adventure and truly take one the world. Lastly the fact that if you’re a G.I. Joe, you cannot die, which again I find this rather disturbing to think that we are letting our boy’s play with these. There is one good side to the G.I. Joe’s though, they have a series of their action figure that they call their "Real American Hero", now on this line you are able to find Buzz Aldrin, Dwight D. Eisenhower, George Washington, Francis S. Currey, all of these men are historical and are important members of our past.

Over all from the moment we are born it seems as though we are labeled, boys are blue and girls are pink. In a sense it starts even before we’re born, our parents when they find out are sex seem to start trying to figure out what exactly we’re going to do in our lives. So to say that over all one toy is really going to be this defining thing is hard to do. Today we live in a society that is always changing and grow, and finding new ways to get products imprinted upon us. Now G.I. Joe and Barbie, both have pros and cons, but over all what they do is they allow children to put themselves into adult roles, G.I. Joe having to fight a war and Barbie getting her pilots license. So I believe that the values that these toys promote are a good thing, but the fact still stands that how they look is completely wrong and forces the youth into a position of wanting to look like something that is very unhealthy, that why I believe that toys like G.I. Joe and Barbie are bad examples for children to use as something to try to emulate.

The Importance of a Universal Language

In today’s ever changing world we all seem to be able to relate to music as an unwritten language of understanding that brings us together. Time and time again we all seem to find ourselves listening to music for all our different moods, we all have songs for when we’re sad, happy, or even just at peace with the world. Now there are many times that a certain song can reach out to people and are able to relate to it on an even deeper level, more than just a song for one of are many emotions. These songs are the type that will go down in history for the artist’s ability to take a real life situation and make it into music, songs like “Sunday, Bloody Sunday” by U2, or “Working Class Hero” by John Lennon. Today though we are focusing on a different topic than people struggle to in society to have a job, or just live day to day in fear. Today we have our attention drawn to the topic of abuse, songs like “Wonderful” by the band Everclear, and “Lose Yourself” by Eminem take this dark and down beat topic and turn it into music. Though these artists’ approaches are very different in presenting the topic, but they both relay the same message, child abuse is very wrong.

Both of these artists talk about abuse in different lights, Everclear puts a happy sound to a very dark topic. I mean when looking at their lyrics without hearing any music I picture a very different sound for the song. With words like, “I just don’t understand how/you can smile with all those tears in your eyes/tell me everything is wonderful” (19-21) it is surprising how up beat the song is, but the power of it is that it makes you listen. The song draws you in with a happy sound that seems innocent, but when you listen you can find what it’s really about. This in its self is a very interesting technique, because the song is talking about all these horrors of what it is like to grow up in an environment that abuse is just the norm of these peoples everyday life and yet keeps the music up beat. The only way that you can really tell what is going on in this song is when you watch the music video, this is when the artist finally lets you see the whole picture.

The artist Eminem on the other hand tells you right off the bat what the song will be about just by tone of the music, it starts with a very heavy down beat with almost no up beat at all. When artists do this it makes you feel darker, and even aggravated when you are listening to the song. Now sometimes artists will talk directly about what is going on in there song, but Eminem doesn’t speak directly about child abuse, but when you read his lyrics it is very heavily implied with words like, “He knows that, but he’s broke/He’s so stacked that he knows/When he goes back to his mobile home…” (18-20). Now I know that this is a rap song, but it feels as if he is almost yelling at you in pain, showing you that it is important that we stop and take time to truly understand the music before we just walk by and pay it no notice. Also what the artist has done with this song is the fact that everyone can relate to some part of it, if that the abuse, struggle to get by, a lack of family or that feeling of trying to reach what seems like an impossible goal. I believe that this song really reaches out to the listener much more than the Everclear song, mainly because I can relate to it more on a personal level.

Now when we look at these songs side by side it seem like they have nothing in common, one is rap the other is rock, one sound happy and the other sounds down. So on one hand yes, they have nothing in common with each other. Then when you starting taking the song apart you start seeing common messages about abuse, and other social issues. We begin to see what both of the artists intended us to see, the struggle to break free from the flaws of our broken society and reality of these issues. In this case child abuse, and the fact that we as not just a nation, but as a people do not pay enough attention to how much it really is going on today. These songs both point out that we turn a blind eye to this issue, and in Eminem’s song he shows us that we all, no matter who we are seem to always be looking away from something that is going wrong. So on the other hand these song are very much in common, playing off of the same under tones and getting the listener to look deeper into the meaning of the music.

Songs like these are very important today with how broken our nation is getting with the divorce rate on the rise, child abuse finally having some sort of action being taken on it, and the fact we as a nation are going through a recession. During times like these we need things that are a common ground, something that we all can understand. We as people of all ages need these songs right now with out a doubt; I mean music is truly the only thing that everyone in this room, school, state, and nation has one hundred percent in common. So with the works of Everclear and Eminem showing that we do not live in a perfect world, is important, just as much as John Lennon, U2, and many other groups and people that show us the different world issues through music. Without a doubt these songs relate to each other and are so different, but that’s just good music, so even Though these artists’ approaches are very different in presenting the topic at hand, they both relay the same message, child abuse is very wrong in today’s world.

It’s on 19.

CASEY

COMMENTATOR

(On the TV the commentator yells) GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In

the last seconds of the match a goal for Manchester! This

sets the score at 3-2 and ends the match. Arsenal will

be going home with the head between their legs.

CASEY

Well sorry for the trouble, I’ll be on my way.

MARKIE

(Getting the door for Casey) Have a nice one.

CULVERTON

(Sitting on the bar smiling at Bobby.)

BOBBY

What did you do?

CULVERTON

I have a tape of the match from last Friday.

BOBBY

Great. When he finds out that is was a tape

we’re fucked!

MARKIE

What are we going to do?

BOBBY

We will have to lay low for a while.

CULVERTON

I got a room up stairs if you need a place to hide out?

MARKIE

That sounds good!

BOBBY

No, that won’t do! We need to rent some flat in town!

MARKIE

That cost money and we don’t have any money.

CULVERTON

Here, (Handing them a large amount of money.) take this.

BOBBY

Where did you get all of this?

CULVERTON

Doesn’t matter do it? Look, take this and your

BOBBY

What about you what will you do?

MARKIE

Are you kidding, he would kill anyone who gets

BOBBY

Good point, he tough!

CULVERTON

Like I said don’t worry about me if something comes up I will

let you know right away!

BOBBY

Right. Markie lets get before Casey gets back.

CULVERTON

Good luck. (pausing) What about the boxing match this Friday?

BOBBY

Shit, I forgot about that. Plus we have a big deal going

down as well.

MARKIE

Could we us someone to stand in or something?

BOBBY

Not a good idea, I said I would be there.

CULVERTON

I know some guys that might be able to help you.

BOBBY

What do you mean you know some guys?

MARKIE

I think that…(Bobby interrupts him)

BOBBY

Markie you’re not calling the shots on this one!

CULVERTON

Gentlemen!

BOBBY

Culverton, tell me what you’re talking about. What men?

CULVERTON

These are just the right guys for you!

BOBBY

What makes them so great?

CULVERTON

One of them can’t be killed! He has taken 7 bullets and didn’t die and

killed the man shooting at him!

BOBBY

What you have to be kidding! 7 bullets and he killed the man!

MARKIE

(Standing there ah stricken)

CULVERTON

I know you want him working for you. He could stop anything

from going on with fight on Friday.

BOBBY

But how do you know he would be will to work for me?

CULVERTON

I don’t. I am sure with the right reasons you

could get him to though. (Hands Bobby a piece of paper)

there now you can find him.

BOBBY

373 Lonsdale Road, Barnes, London, SW13 9PY

(saying the address to himself) wait its that the Bull’s Head?

CULVERTON

Yeah that’s it, why?

BOBBY

I don’t know I just don’t like the sound of it. (Bobby goes

outside Bobby turns to Culverton and speaks) Don’t let

anyone know who I am or it will be your head.

(Sun is just coming up over the cityscape, Bobby is outside wait for Markie to bring the car around. Sees a police car coming down the street and becomes impatient.)

BOBBY

(Speaking to himself) where is that Bugger of a Berk when I need him!

(The police car begins to slow down and come to a stop in front of Bobby. Bobby stands there Ridgley, waiting for something to happen.)

OFFICER

(Speaking in a heavy Scottish accent) Top of the mornin’ to ye.

BOBBY

Top of the mornin’.

OFFICER

What are you doing out at this hour?

BOBBY

(Thinking quickly) I was drink for the whole night,

my lassie ditched me for another man.

OFFICER

I see, do you need a ride back to your flat?

BOBBY

No my mates coming and giving me a lift home.

OFFICER

I see (begins to role up his window.)

(Markie comes around the corner in the car. The officer is pulling away and then stops after seeing the car. (The car is an Aston Martin.) Bobby run to the car and gets in. The officer looks back and Bobby is in the car and they are speeding off)

INT. IN THE CAR

BOBBY

Where the bugger where you!!!

MARKIE

I got lost (focusing on his driving)

BOBBY

How can you get lost!

MARKIE

I don’t know I just did.

BOBBY

Where did you go then if you got lost?

MARKIE

I took a wrong turn on 5th and then I got stuck

Behind a truck

BOBBY

That’s still no reason!

MARKIE

Like I said I’m sorry!

INT. MARKIE’S FLAT

(Very cluttered and messy. Books and magazines are everywhere. His bed (futon) is in the living room and the whole place is torn up. Bobby looking around picks up a magazine and then a knock at the door.)

CASEY

Anyone home in there?

BOBBY

(Looking at Markie) What is this!

MARKIE

Fuck if I know! How did he find my place?

BOBBY

Do you have your wallet?

MARKIE

(Checking his pocket) SHIT!

BOBBY

You lost it didn’t you?

MARKIE

No, when we where talking to him I put my wallet

on the table, he must have taken it!

BOBBY

No time for us to really think now is there?

Do you have a escape way?

MARKIE

Yeah right here why?

BOBBY

Cause that’s our way out!

MARKIE

I see. What about Casey?

CASEY

I know you’re in there! I’m coming through

this door if you don’t open it!

BOBBY

(Looking out the window at the fire escape) Markie if

we’re going to get out of here we need to now!

MARKIE

But what about my place? What’s he going to do

to it? Come on let me grab some stuff!

BOBBY

NO! Come on we don’t have time for this!

MARKIE

But Bobby!

BOBBY

NO! We leave now!

MARKIE

But…(pausing)

BOBBY

Markie we’re leaving here now! No if ands or

buts about it!

CASEY

Last chance!

MARKIE

Shit I hate this!

BOBBY

(Opening the window, and stepping outside onto the fire escape)

Markie forget about all of this and lets get out of here!

CASEY

(Cocks his gun and shots the lock out. And steps into the room)

Damn! No one home!

(Casey moves around the room throwing things around. Moving toward the back of the flat he see the open window. Sticks his head out and looks around for the two men. But they are now where to be seen.)

EXT. IN THE ALLY BEHIND MARKIES FLAT

(Dirty, tipped over trashcans and a cat here and there. Not the best place to be. Bobby and Markie are seen pulling themselves out of a dumpster that they jumped into.)

BOBBY

(Pulling a banana peel off his coat and dusting off) Well that

wasn’t too bad. I just hope that he doesn’t connect us with

the boxing to night.

MARKIE

(Trying to heave himself out of the trash bin.) Yeah sure. You

really think that he’s not going to think this all out?

BOBBY

Well what do you want me to do just invite to the match?

MARKIE

That’s not such a bad idea!

BOBBY

What? What do you mean not such a bad idea??

MARKIE

(Finally getting out of the trash bin) Come on look you set the

rules and then you can just get rid of him!

BOBBY

Markie for once I think you just had a good idea!

MARKIE

Really?

BOBBY

Yeah, we can go ahead and let him know that there

is going to be a fight tonight. Set down some

guidelines and set him up.

MARKIE

What about the guy that Culverton told you about?

BOBBY

Right (Pulling out the address and taking a look at it)

we can make it there by car in half an hour.

MARKIE

I wonder if Casey knows what car we’re driving?

BOBBY

Shit!

MARKIE

I left the car around front, lets go have a

look and see if he tagged it.

BOBBY

Lets go then, we don’t have much time till he

could be downstairs again.

(Running around the corner, the men see the car nothing seems wrong with it but they move closer to check it out.)

BOBBY

Looks clear to me. Did you look under the car?

MARKIE

Yeah, nothing there, let get out of here!

BOBBY

Look!

CASEY

You two, stop right there!

BOBBY

Markie, get in the car and let’s get!

CASEY

(Pulling out his gun) I said don’t move!

MARKIE

Bobby what should I do?

BOBBY

Get in the car now! (Cocking his gun in his coat.)

CASEY

I said don’t move! What do you not

understand about don’t move!!!!

BOBBY

Move it!

CASEY

Son of a bitch! (Aiming his gun at the car

and cocking his gun)

MARKIE

Shit! Don’t do that!

BOBBY

(Aiming the gun at Markie) I said drive!

So god damn it drive!!!

MARKIE

Ok!

CASEY

Son of a bitch! I want those to dead! (speaking to dispatch

of his cell phone) I need all the side streets covered.

(phasing for a response) Yeah that’s right a black Aston

Martin (phasing)What a different officer already

called it in?

BOBBY

(Putting the gun under the seat) I would never

shoot you. You know that, right?

MARKIE

I know its just when you get that close it

always scares me. (Turning back to his

driving)

BOBBY

There’s Central so now we just need to keep going

until we hit the intersection of Lonsdale and

Central. Then you’re going to take a right ok?

MARKIE

Yeah got it.

(An uneasy silence comes over the car and Bobby begins to fidget in his seat and begins to get nervous and then speaks abruptly)

BOBBY

How’s your mum?

MARKIE

Fine why?

BOBBY

Don’t know I just was wondering.

MARKIE

You ok? (Looking over at Bobby) why

are you so jumpy?

BOBBY

Really it’s just nothing.

MARKIE

Ok.

(Again silence falls over the two men, Bobby again starts to get fidgety but this time he takes out his cell phone and begins to look at photos from the fight last night, he zooms in on one of the photos and is shocked)

BOBBY

Markie look at this! (Showing him the picture)

MARKIE

That can’t be!

BOBBY

But it is! (Pointing at a person in the picture)

MARKIE

That’s Casey!

BOBBY

No shit it Casey!

MARKIE

I guess that we wont have to be inviting him to

the fight tonight.

BOBBY

No your right and this might play into our

advantage in the long run you know?

MARKIE

What do you mean?

BOBBY

He will already be there making it thousands of

times easier for us to give him the slip.

MARKIE

I see.

BOBBY

Pay attention to your driving! You almost

missed your turn!

MARKIE

Sorry. But how are we going to give him the slip?

BOBBY

Simple we’ll have our man knock him out while he’s

watching the boxing match and then we’ll put him up

against the Iron Fist.

MARKIE

The Iron Fist! Just looking at him scares me half to death!

Bobby, Casey doesn’t stand a chance!

BOBBY

I know that’s the point!

EXT OUTSIDE THE BULLS HEAD PUB

(It is about 1:00 in the afternoon when Bobby and Markie pull in back of the Bulls Head, there are only a few cars out around back. The smell of fresh brewed beer can clearly be smelled by the two men.)

BOBBY

You smell that?

MARKIE

Yeah, I love that smell.

BOBBY

So how do you think we will be able to tell who this

guy is?

MARKIE

We could always count the bullet holes.

Seven, right?

BOBBY

Yeah that sounds about right.
